The Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run, the oldest endurance running event in the United States, traverses the Sierra Nevada mountain range from Squaw Valley to Auburn, California. The race began in 1974 at the Tevis Ride when Gordy Ansleigh's horse pulled up lame, and Gordy decided to tackle the course under his own power. He succeeded in crossing the finish line in under 24 hours, exploding the notion that human beings simply could not do such a thing.
This year's race, the 29th running, will be held on the weekend of June 29-30, and will see the 5,000th runner cross the finish line. This runner will receive a custom chair from New West featuring the logo of the Western States race: a cougar atop a rock. Dark green leather covers the seat and back, and the legs are fashioned from lodge pole pine to retain the unique quality of each bough, it's truly a fine peice of western style furniture.
The Buffalo Bill Invitational Shootout on August 15-17 is organized under the auspices of the world-renowned Buffalo Bill Historical Center and Cody Shooting Complex. This event, the ninth annual, showcases the importance of the shooting sports as well as the history of firearms, and includes skeet, trap, sporting clays, and 5 stand events. New West will be presenting one of their club chairs to the Top Gun of the event. The chair features a leather seat and back sporting counter piping and a line of studs. The emblem of the Buffalo Bill Invitational Shootout is carved into the back of the chair and is the finest quality of western style furniture.
